My Decade

On New Year’s Eve 2009 I was sitting up in Southbank, Brisbane, waiting for the fireworks at midnight. And I started reflecting on some of the magic moments of 2009. What an amazing year this has been! So much growth and discovery, from the first day in Agra, India, till this last night in Brisbane, Australia.

On the way back to the car there was a sign saying: welcome to a new decade. It set me off thinking about the past ten years. Gee wizz… what a difference….to say the least. My whole life has changed, and it has changed from fixed into moving.

Just to give you an idea, I jotted down a general overview of my personal Decade:

  • 2000 – Moving into a newly built detached villa.
  • 2001 – Coordinating and implementing the Euro Conversion.
  • 2002 – Relationship problems.
  • 2003 – Divorcing in February, Break down in December.
  • 2004 – Anxiety. Denial. Dark night of the Soul.
  • 2005 – Acceptance. Designing of a new life on my terms.
  • 2006 – Selling the house and my belongings.
  • 2007 – Settling into the travelling lifestyle.
  • 2008 – Getting together with my dream partner.
  • 2009 – Discovering and embracing my passion.

Divorcing my husband after a marriage of over 20 years was very hard. My carefully crafted house of cards came tumbling down. BOOM! I lost my relationship, my health, my job and with that my income and my company car…. very steep learning curve! And do I remember that Dark Night! It lasted for months.

The good news is that you don’t have to go through something like this to get to your dream. You can take a different decision any day.

Over the years I have come to understand that change is a process, and have embraced the fact that I am gradually growing into who I really am. It has taken me some time to adjust to this lifestyle. I have been on the road for a little over 3 years now, and only since the last couple of months I feel totally relaxed with the uncertainty of it. If you are considering becoming an Earth Pilgrim, my advice to you is:

Follow your heart, have faith and keep going!

I look forward to meeting you one day.
